HOW THE COMPARISON WORKS

Every number should lead back to a label.

We compare selected Australian listings where the product, pack, magnesium form, unit, stated elemental amount and displayed price can be traced to a brand or retailer. This is a living selection, not the whole market.

Same quantity.
Clearer comparison.

“Elemental magnesium” is the magnesium itself. A label can quote the weight of the whole compound, the elemental amount, or both. We show the basis beside every number.

We use the elemental amount stated by the brand or retailer. Some brands give approximate amounts, which we mark “≈”. We do not infer a product’s content from a generic percentage.

How we calculate price per 100 mg

Pack price ÷ (comparison serves per pack × elemental magnesium per serve) × 100. Calculations use unrounded numbers; prices are rounded to cents for display. An approximate elemental amount gives an approximate cost.

A comparison serve is the unit shown in each row, such as one tablet, two capsules or a measured weight of powder. It is a bookkeeping unit, not personal intake advice.

What the blue row and bars mean

The blue row has the lowest unrounded cost per 100 mg among the products currently shown. It is not a health recommendation. Prices refer to the exact pack shown, exclude delivery and conditional discounts, and may change.

Bars use a 500 mg display scale for visual consistency. This is not a target or a recommended intake. Magnesium amount alone does not establish absorption or effectiveness.

What remains unverified

Product testing documents, regulatory identifiers and complete ingredient reviews are not confirmed for every entry. A blank field means “not reviewed or not stated”, not that a feature is absent. We do not score, rank by health effect or infer those missing facts.

01

Use the label’s elemental amount

If a source states both the compound weight and the magnesium equivalent, we record both but calculate price from the equivalent. If a source prints elemental magnesium directly, we do not convert it again. A source that gives only compound mass is excluded until its elemental amount can be verified.

02

Match the pack to the price

Each record names the selected variant and checked price. The comparison includes current displayed discounts that do not require membership, but excludes member rates, subscription, multi-buy and shipping. We state when a selected price is a sale. Prices may change after the check date.

03

Keep grams and counts separate

Tablets and capsules use their count. Powders use pack grams and grams per comparison unit. Dividing the pack by the unit gives the number of arithmetic comparison units. Fractional powder units stay unrounded in the cost formula.

04

Preserve uncertainty

Some brand labels say “about” or “roughly”. We mark the elemental amount and derived cost “≈”. We do not guess AUST L numbers, testing results, stock, full ingredients or product outcomes. Unknown is distinct from absent.

05

Separate cost from health

Sorting by cost or showing a blue row does not rank safety, absorption or benefit. We do not award scores or claim that a larger amount is better. Evidence articles summarise studies separately and do not endorse products.

Corrections and updates.

The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements explains elemental magnesium labelling. Each product record has its own source URLs and checked date. A changed retailer price is updated as a new snapshot and logged in the change record. Please use the contact details to flag a factual error.
